Overview

What is a Implant-Based (Alloplastic) Reconstruction?

Rebuilding the breast with a tissue expander or implant, either at the time of mastectomy or in stages.

The Procedure

What does the procedure involve?

Reconstructs the breast using a tissue expander and/or implant to restore breast volume and shape, either at the time of mastectomy or as a staged procedure. The implant is positioned beneath or above the chest muscle depending on the patient’s anatomy and reconstruction plan.

Candidacy

Who is a suitable candidate?

Women who have had or are planning a mastectomy and would like breast reconstruction without the need for an external prosthesis, particularly where using the body’s own tissue would be insufficient or contraindicated. Overall health, age, extent of disease and possible chemotherapy or radiation therapy are considered.
