Overview

What is a Autologous Flap Reconstruction?

The Procedure

What does the procedure involve?

Uses the patient’s own skin and fat, with or without muscle depending on the flap, to create a new breast mound. Tissue is taken from a donor site such as the abdomen, thigh or buttock and transferred to the chest, with microsurgical connection of blood vessels for free flaps.

Candidacy

Who is a suitable candidate?

Patients who have had or are planning a mastectomy and would like reconstruction using their own tissue. Suitable patients need sufficient healthy donor tissue and must be medically suitable for a longer reconstructive procedure.
